Three ASHA documents of interest to Division 7 members are being updated by an appointed group of audiologists and speech-language pathologists with expertise in various areas of aural rehabilitation. The documents include Guidelines for Graduate Education in Amplification, the Audiologic Rehabilitation Bibliography, and Minimal Competencies for the Provision of Services in Audiologic Rehabilitation.
A final draft of the Guidelines for Graduate Education in Amplification is awaiting approval from the ASHA Executive Board and the Audiology Legislative Assembly. The document received very favorable comments from widespread peer reviews this past summer. Reviewers were particularly pleased with guidelines stipulating curriculum and practicum emphasis on the role of counseling in the hearing aid fitting process, and on formal assessment of communication and adjustment problems to facilitate management of individuals with hearing impairment and to document the outcomes of recommended hearing aid use.
