Different perspectives are the spice of life. In AR, we provide services to individuals with hearing problems that, to us, can seem all too familiar and routine after a while. And yet, to those seeking our guidance and assistance, the problems faced and the situations experienced are not routine; they can be life-altering challenges for which our insight and expertise are often sorely needed. When we pause and consider a patient's perspective, we discover, yet again, that there is nothing about this profession of ours that is routine. SIG 7's emphasis on person/patient-centered care over the past several years reflects changes in health care that require us to view those who seek our care from a different perspective. Simply stated, to be truly person-centered in practice requires us to view each and every patient as a unique person and to understand each one's problems from his or her perspective. Only then are we in a position to provide care that is consistent with the person's needs, abilities, and lifestyle and which, as a result, is most likely to succeed.
